Oil Refining Without Imports: What Did META CHROM LLC See at the Scientific and Technological Conference in Moscow?

Two days. Hundreds of participants. One overarching question: how is the Russian oil refining industry surviving and developing under the conditions when Western technologies have withdrawn?

On June 9–10, 2026, Moscow hosted the conference "Modernisation, Technologies and Economics of Russia's Oil Refining Complex" – a key industry platform where government, business, and engineering meet.

A wide range of interesting topics were discussed, and here are the main points from the reports:

- The general development roadmap for the industry: where are we now and where are we heading?

- Import substitution of equipment and technologies: what has already been accomplished and what still lies ahead?

- Robotics and digitalisation of refineries: how is AI transforming production?

- Cybersecurity: how to protect a plant's digital infrastructure?

A key moment of the conference was participation in the meeting of the expert group "Equipment for Oil and Gas Processing" under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia. For us, as domestic equipment manufacturers, this is an opportunity not just to listen, but to influence the formation of industry standards and to exchange views with those who make key decisions.

The second day offered participants a tour of Rosatom's Additive Technologies Centre. The delegation saw how 3D printing restores parts that just a few years ago were considered "unrepairable." This vividly demonstrates what is now a widely discussed concept – "technological sovereignty."

META‑CHROM LLC returns from the conference with new contacts, a renewed understanding of priorities, and the firm conviction that Russian equipment has long ceased to be a compromise – it is now the choice of true professionals in their field.
